Botlmit –The medical staff at Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani Hospital in the city of Boutilimit, southwestern Mauritania, organized a protest in front of the health institution, denouncing what they described as “mismanagement,” which, according to the protesters, led to the cessation of a number of medical services and the disruption of work flow within the hospital.
The organizers of the protest confirmed that the protest came after the deterioration of the administrative and financial situation, accusing the hospital administration of following policies that contributed to derailing the health institution from performing its role, in addition to delaying the payment of workers’ salaries and entitlements.
The protesters pointed out that the hospital lacked specialist doctors, attributing this to the administration’s lack of commitment to paying their financial dues, which, according to their statements, was reflected in the quality of health services provided to patients.
Hamad Bin Khalifa Al Thani Hospital, which was established in 2007 in the city of Boutilimit, is one of the most prominent health institutions in the region. It is supervised by the Education Above All Foundation and aims to provide health care services to the residents of the region at prices that take into account their economic conditions, in addition to limiting the movement of patients to the capital, Nouakchott, or abroad to receive treatment, according to data from the Qatar Red Crescent.
These protests come at a time when workers are calling for urgent intervention to address administrative and financial imbalances and ensure the continuity of health services, in a way that preserves the rights of medical personnel and provides the necessary care for patients.
