The first professional football league in Algeria is experiencing a new wave of controversy and angry protests during the current October rounds, due to the deterioration of the floors of a number of stadiums, repeated decisions to postpone matches, as well as sharp criticism directed at the performance of referees.
Strongly worded statements from Algerian clubs due to refereeing errors and the absence of VAR
Several Algerian clubs issued denunciations after the end of the last round’s matches, complaining about what they described as “affective refereeing errors” and the absence of video assistant technology (VAR) in most of the matches, which sparked widespread tension among fans and coaches.
The programming committee was also forced to change the stadiums and dates of a number of matches at the last minute as a result of the closure of sports facilities for emergency maintenance, which disrupted the physical preparations of the clubs participating in local and continental competitions.
Sports analysts sound the alarm about the decline in football competitiveness
Sports analysts on Maghreb television stations unanimously agreed that the continued organizational problems and stifling financial indebtedness of Algerian clubs are hampering the development of the local championship and negatively affecting the teams’ results in African competitions.
