Casablanca –On Thursday evening, the Criminal Chamber of the Court of Appeal in Casablanca brought down the curtain on the preliminary stage of one of the most prominent criminal cases that preoccupied public opinion, known in the media as “Escobar of the Desert,” by issuing effective prison sentences against a number of followers, led by Saeed Al-Nasri and Abdelnabi Baayoui.
The court ruled to convict Saeed Al-Nasiri, the former president of Wydad Sports Club and former parliamentarian, with 10 years in prison, after he was prosecuted on charges including forgery of official documents, participation in the possession and trafficking of drugs, fraud, exploitation of influence, and incitement of witnesses, noting that he denied all the charges against him during the stages of the trial.
The court also issued a 12-year prison sentence against Abdel Nabi Bayoui, the former president of the Eastern Region Council, after he was prosecuted on charges related to forgery of official documents and participation in an agreement related to international drug trafficking, while his brother Abdel Rahim Bayoui was convicted of 9 years in prison.
The rulings also included former parliamentarian Belkacem M., who was sentenced to 10 years in prison, after being held accountable on charges of forgery, bribery, participation in international drug trafficking, and organizing irregular migration within the framework of a criminal gang.
This file is followed by 28 defendants, including elected officials, businessmen, employees, security personnel, and professionals, in a case whose investigations began in late 2023, following the statements of Malian citizen Hajj Ahmed Ben Ibrahim, known in the media as “Escobar of the Desert,” regarding a network suspected of involvement in international drug trafficking and money laundering.
The court confirmed that the rulings issued are preliminary and subject to appeal in accordance with applicable legal procedures.
