This decision comes after pressure from the opposition, which considered the ban a restriction on the freedom of movement of citizens, demanding that the president cancel the measure, which was partially achieved with the ministry announcing the end of this measure.

The streets of Nouakchott and other cities witnessed strict restrictions on car movement, which affected the daily life of residents, led to the disruption of some economic activities and transportation services, and also created a feeling of popular tension, especially among workers and small business owners who depend on daily transportation.

Observers point out that lifting the ban reflects weak government planning and the inability to reconcile austerity policies with the living needs of citizens. It also raises questions about the state’s readiness to confront economic crises without resorting to coercive measures that directly affect freedom of movement and daily life.
