Tan Tan –Preliminary data issued by American military sources revealed that one of the two American soldiers missing during the “African Lion 2026” maneuvers on the coast of Tan-Tan threw himself into the sea in an attempt to save his colleague who fell in the water, in an accident whose details are still under investigation.
According to the same sources, the accident occurred near the “Cap Draa” area, when a number of soldiers were participating in field activity near cliffs overlooking the ocean, before one of them fell into the sea, prompting his colleagues to try to save him with primitive means, to no avail.
The data added that one of the soldiers intervened directly and jumped into the water to try to save his colleague, but he was also exposed to strong waves that prevented them from returning to land, while a third soldier was able to survive after a similar intervention attempt.
Search and rescue operations are continuing up to now, with the participation of air and naval units, in addition to diving teams, where drones and specialized ships have been deployed, in addition to expected reinforcements from the American side, including an advanced maritime reconnaissance aircraft.
Units of the Royal Armed Forces also participate in combing operations, especially in the caves and rocky areas that characterize the region’s coasts.
This incident comes in the context of the activities of the “African Lion 2026” maneuvers, which are considered one of the largest multinational military exercises on the African continent, with the participation of Morocco, the United States, and a number of partner countries.
