Rabat –The Moroccan women’s national football team took a big step towards reaching the quarter-finals of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, Morocco 2026, after achieving a valuable victory over its Algerian counterpart, 1-0, in the match that brought them together on Thursday evening on the grounds of the Prince Moulay El Hassan Stadium in Rabat, in the second round of the first group competitions.
Sanaa Masoudi scored the only victory goal in the 84th minute, after a coordinated attack and a perfect cross pass from Hanan Ait El Haj, giving the “Atlas Lionesses” three valuable points that strengthened their lead in the group.
The confrontation witnessed a balanced start characterized by caution on both sides, before the national elements imposed their control over the course of the game, possessing the ball and creating several chances through the sides and set pieces, while the Algerian team was content with limited attempts that did not pose a real threat to goalkeeper Khadija Al-Rumaichi.
In the second half, coach Jorge Villeda’s players continued to press in search of the lead goal, before Sanaa Masoudi succeeded in decoding the Algerian defense six minutes before the end of normal time, amid great joy for the Moroccan fans who filled the stadium’s stands.
With this victory, the Moroccan team raised its score to 6 points at the top of Group A, after it had begun its campaign with a broad victory over Kenya with four unanswered goals, while the Algerian team’s score froze at 3 points.
The Moroccan national team will conclude the group stage by facing Senegal next August 3 on the grounds of Prince Moulay Hassan Stadium, in a match in which it seeks to confirm its lead and continue its continental journey with confidence.
