Benghazi –The Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy of the Libyan government announced that its technical teams faced great difficulties in repairing a malfunction in the electricity network in the guard area in the city of Benghazi, due to random urban expansion and encroachments on the main cable routes.
The Ministry explained, in an official statement, that a number of buildings and shops were erected over the paths of electricity cables in an unorganized manner, which hindered drilling operations and detection of the fault site, and prolonged the period of technical intervention to restore service.
She added that the maintenance teams discovered that a high-tension cable was completely passing under one of the shops, which made it difficult to reach the fault site and raised the level of risks while carrying out the repair work.
The Ministry stressed that these infringements directly affect the efficiency of periodic and emergency maintenance operations, and increase the time and effort required to repair faults, stressing the importance of maintaining the paths of electricity networks to ensure rapid intervention and continuity of energy supply.
Despite the field challenges, the technical teams were able to complete the required connections and conduct the necessary tests on the cable, before returning electricity to the region and restoring service stability.
At the conclusion of its statement, the Ministry of Electricity praised the efforts of the engineers and technicians who worked in what it described as exceptional conditions, stressing the continuation of work to improve the performance of the electrical network, while calling for preventing attacks on the infrastructure in order to preserve the safety of operation and maintenance operations
