Rabat –Gianni Infantino, President of the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA), praised the development achieved by Morocco in the field of football infrastructure, during his intervention Thursday at the strategic conference of the Confederation of African Football, held on the island of Sal in Cape Verde, highlighting the investments and projects taking place in African football.
Infantino placed Morocco among the African countries that have achieved progress in this field, noting the establishment of national training centers, stadiums and facilities designated for competitions, as well as new headquarters for football federations, as part of efforts aimed at developing the football infrastructure on the continent.
The FIFA President revealed that the International Federation invested one billion dollars in Africa during the past ten years, including $500 million during the last four years, explaining that these investments included the implementation of 124 projects and other initiatives aimed at developing football and sports facilities.
Infantino pointed to the improvement in the ability of African countries to host international matches in their stadiums, explaining that 26 countries were not able, two years ago, to host their matches due to their stadiums not meeting the required standards, compared to 40 countries that are now able to play their international matches on their soil, stressing the continued support of FIFA for developing infrastructure on the continent.
At the level of sporting competitiveness, the President of the International Federation recalled the development of the results of the African teams, recalling that nine out of ten teams that participated in the 2026 World Cup reached the knockout rounds, compared to none of the five African teams participating in the 2018 edition reaching this round.
He also highlighted the growing presence of African talent in world football, stressing the importance of providing them with greater opportunities to highlight their potential at the highest levels, in parallel with continuing to invest in developing the game and its facilities in various countries of the continent.
