Morocco and Senegal against TAS today… a decisive session in the African Cup final

Lausanne –Today, Thursday, October 8, 2026 in the Swiss city of Lausanne, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (TAS) is considering the appeal submitted by the Senegalese Football Federation against the decision of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) deeming the Senegal national team defeated in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations final and officially recording the result as 3-0 in favor of the Moroccan national team. The court’s decision will not be issued on the same day, according to what “Tas” confirmed.

The arbitration session comes after the Senegalese appeal was officially registered with the Court of Arbitration for Sport on March 25, 2026, where the Senegalese university is demanding that the decision of the CAF Appeals Committee be annulled and that the Senegal national team be declared the winner of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

On March 17, the African Union Appeals Committee decided to consider the Senegalese team defeated in the final match, based on Articles 82 and 84 of the Africa Cup of Nations regulations, and to score the match 3-0 in favor of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation, after concluding that the behavior of the Senegalese team falls within the scope of the two aforementioned articles.

The dispute is related to the events that took place in the tournament final, which was held in Rabat on January 18, 2026, when a number of Senegalese national team players left the field in protest against a penalty kick awarded by the referee in favor of the Moroccan national team in the last minutes of regular time.

The match was stopped for about 14 minutes before resuming, while the confrontation on the field ended with Senegal winning 1-0 after extra time. However, CAF later reconsidered the result following the appeal filed by the Royal Moroccan Football Federation, before the Appeals Committee decided to adopt a 3-0 result in favor of Morocco.

The “TASS” session will be held in the presence of representatives of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation and the Senegalese Football Federation, while the Confederation of African Football is represented by its legal advisors. The session will be held behind closed doors, and the parties have not requested that it be held in public.

An arbitration panel consisting of Frenchman Gerald Simon, president, Italian Luigi Fumagalli, and German Ulrich Haas, will look into the file. The session is scheduled to begin at nine-thirty in the morning local time in Lausanne, and the body’s deliberations will begin after the end of hearing the parties.

The case has sporting and legal importance, given that the appeal is not only related to the result of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations final, but also to the validity of the decision of the CAF Appeals Committee, which changed the official result of the match and gave Morocco a 3-0 victory.

According to “TAS”, it is not possible at the present time to determine the date for issuing the final ruling, and the court also stressed that the decision will not be issued on the day of the October 8 session, which means that the fate of the file will remain pending until the end of the arbitration panel’s deliberations and issuing its decision.
