Nouakchott –announcedMauritanian governmentAdopting temporary measures to restrict the export of a number of food and energy materials, in a step aimed at protecting the national stock and ensuring the supply of the local market with basic materials in light of international fluctuations.
According to available data, the official spokesman for the government, Hussein Ould Madou, explained during a press interview following the Ministerial Council meeting that this decision comes within the framework of precautionary measures taken by the Mauritanian authorities in anticipation of any potential disruptions in global supply chains, especially in light of the existing geopolitical tensions in the Middle East region and its possible repercussions on supplying the markets.
The government official indicated that this measure remains temporary, explaining that the authorities will work to review it as soon as the level of supply improves and supplies stabilize, allowing export operations to resume normally.
In the same context, Ould Madou stressed that the government has put in place a set of regulatory mechanisms to ensure regular supply of the internal market with food and energy supplies, while maintaining a balance between local consumption andEconomic activitiesrelated to export.
Regarding the livestock sector, the Mauritanian official highlighted that his country has a herd of about 6 million heads of cows and about 21 million heads of small ruminants, noting that the livestock market inMauritaniaIt supplies a number of neighboring countries, whether through organized trade channels or unclassified ways.
