Rosso –Today, Tuesday, specialist doctors at the regional hospital center in the city of Roseau, the capital of Trarza state in Mauritania, resumed their open strike, after the expiry of the deadline to suspend the protest without implementing the pledges that had previously been made to address their professional demands and improve working conditions.
The doctors confirmed that the decision to return to the strike came ten days after the suspension of the protest movement, pointing out that none of the agreed-upon obligations had been implemented, and that no indicators had been issued that reflected the readiness of the hospital administration or the guardian authorities to address the outstanding issues.
The specialists went on an open strike in mid-June, before deciding to suspend it on June 16, after the union section of the Mauritanian Medical Specialists Syndicate received official pledges that included settling arrears, improving working conditions, and providing the necessary medical supplies and equipment, which contributes to raising the quality of health services and improving patient care.
The union section explained that the suspension of the strike was aimed at giving the authorities sufficient time to implement their obligations, but the expiration of the deadline without achieving any progress prompted the doctors to resume the strike, with an emphasis on continuing all legitimate forms of protest until their demands are met.
