Mauritania faces the high cost of living with a huge program

Nouakchott –Mauritanian President Mohamed Ould Cheikh Ghazouani launched Operation “Aoun”, the largest direct social intervention to confront the repercussions of the high cost of living, targeting more than two million citizens across the country’s various states, through cash and food aid worth more than 12 billion old ouguiyas.

The process includes cash transfers for the benefit of more than 352,000 families registered in the social registry, in addition to distributing food baskets to more than 155,000 families from the most vulnerable groups, in a step aimed at enhancing the purchasing power of families affected by the rise in prices.

The Mauritanian President supervised the official launch of the operation from Nouakchott, where he was briefed on the logistical preparations and distribution mechanisms programmed to cover the various regions of the country.

This initiative comes within a package of government measures aimed at alleviating the repercussions of global economic fluctuations and the rise in prices of fuel and basic materials, while directing support directly to the groups most in need.

According to official data, more than two million citizens benefit from Operation Aoun, making it one of the largest social support operations Mauritania has witnessed in recent years.
