Mauritania destroys 3 tons of spoiled food in Tidjakja and calls for reporting violations

TjakjaYesterday, Wednesday, the local authorities in the state of Tagant supervised the process of destroying and burning three tons of expired food, in a step aimed at strengthening market control and protecting the health of consumers.

The operation took place on the outskirts of the city of Tajjakja, under the supervision of the advisor to the governor of Tagant in charge of economic affairs and local development,Mohamed Salem Ould Sidi MohamedHe stressed that this initiative falls within the state’s efforts to monitor the quality of food products and ensure the safety of materials offered for sale.

The official explained that the teams of the regional delegation of the Ministry of Commerce and Tourism were able, during inspection and control campaigns, to monitor a number of violations related to the marketing of materials that are not suitable for consumption, noting that the necessary legal measures have been taken against the violators.

In the same context, the advisor appreciated the cooperation shown by merchants with the competent authorities, calling on citizens and shop owners to continue reporting any suspicious or expired consumer materials, in a way that contributes to enhancing the safety of markets.

For his part, the regional delegate of the Ministry of Commerce and Tourism in the state of Tagant confirmed,Issa Ould HamadHe said that the seizure of this large quantity of spoiled food came thanks to the cooperation of merchants and their reporting of invalid products, praising also the support provided by the administrative and security authorities for the success of monitoring and consumer protection operations.

This operation comes within the framework of intensifying inspection campaigns carried out by the Mauritanian authorities to combat the circulation of foodstuffs that do not comply with health standards, and to ensure the provision of safe products to citizens.
