Mali officially denies the return of its ambassador to Algeria

The Malian authorities denied the validity of the news circulating regarding the return of the Bamako ambassador to Algeria, stressing that what is being circulated on some digital platforms is not based on any official basis.

The Malian Ministry of Foreign Affairs explained, in a statement, that the news related to the ambassador’s return to Algeria is “completely incorrect,” considering it to be false data being promoted through social media, and called for the adoption of communications issued by the ministry’s official channels as the sole source of information.

This clarification comes in a regional context characterized by remarkable diplomatic activity, especially after Algeria’s reception on February 15 and 16 of General Abderrahmane Tiani, who has been leading the transitional phase in Niger since July 2023.

Indicators of rapprochement between Algeria and Burkina Faso also emerged, following the visit of Algerian Energy Minister Mohamed Arkab to Ouagadougou in mid-February, within the framework of strengthening bilateral cooperation.

It is noteworthy that, in April 2025, Algeria had recalled its ambassadors to Mali and Niger following diplomatic tensions linked to mutual accusations in the Sahel region, which prompted Bamako and Niamey to take similar measures at the time, and increased regional tension.

This official denial reflects continued caution in the course of Algerian-Mali relations, awaiting any developments announced through approved diplomatic channels.
