Tripoli –Today, Thursday, the United Nations Support Mission in Libya confirmed its commitment to communicating with the new Speaker of the House of Representatives, Salihin Abdel Nabi, the Presidency of the Council and all its members, with the aim of advancing the political road map towards unifying institutions and holding national elections.

The mission explained that it followed the two sessions of the House of Representatives held in Benghazi over the weekend, noting that the October 5 session witnessed the participation of 102 members, 98 of whom voted in favor of amending the House’s bylaws and approving a rotating presidency system for a maximum period of 12 months.

She added that the October 6 session witnessed the participation of at least 111 members, during which a new presidency of the House of Representatives was elected, where Al-Saliheen Abdel Nabi was elected President of the Council, in addition to the election of a new Presidency.

The United Nations mission confirmed that it will continue to work with the Libyan legislative institution to advance the political road map facilitated by the United Nations, including unifying state institutions, implementing urgent reforms, and creating the necessary conditions for holding elections.

This path is linked to the mini-meeting agreement that was signed on August 30, 2026, which dealt with the restructuring of the Election Commission Council and addressing the outstanding issues in the constitutional and legal framework for the presidential and legislative elections, with the parties committing to work on organizing the elections within a period not exceeding 24 months.

The House of Representatives supported the agreement in September, in a step that the United Nations mission considered an important progress on the path to overcoming the political stalemate and creating conditions for holding comprehensive and credible parliamentary and presidential elections.

The latest developments come at a time when the United Nations mission continues its efforts to end the institutional and political division in Libya, through a path based on pushing for national elections and unifying state institutions, in parallel with addressing the political and legal issues that obstruct the electoral process.
