Libya: New ministers begin their duties amid political division and anticipation of Parliament’s position

A number of new officials began their duties withinGovernment amendmentWhich was approved by the Prime Minister of the National Unity Government, Abdul Hamid Dabaiba, with the aim of filling the shortage within the executive branch after a vacancy of about13 ministries out of 27Due to resignations and investigations related to suspicions of corruption.

The most notable appointments included:

  • Salem Al Zadma: Deputy Prime Minister
  • Haitham Al-Zahhaf: Minister of Youth
  • Abdul Qader Al-Zarrouk: Undersecretary of the Ministry of Technical Education
    In addition to appointing new ministers in sectorsFinance, health, culture, sports and civil service.

The government confirmed the adoption ofStandard of competency and prior trainingIn choosing names, taking into account geographical balance.

The amendment was supported byThe Presidential Council and the Supreme Council of State, as opposed toAbsence of an official position of the House of Representatives, which reflects the continued division between the east and west of the country, in light of the presence of two competing governments since the withdrawal of confidence in 2021.

In parallel, the security file returned to the forefront afterDiscovery of a mass grave inTripoli(Abu Salim)Two bodies dating back to the year 2023 were identified, as part of a series of investigations into kidnapping and murder cases.

This comes in the context of a complex transitional phase, where the success of the amendment remains linked toImproving services and resolvingPolitical differences.
