Rome –Discussion of the Chief of General Staff of the Libyan National Unity Government,Salah al-Din al-Namroush, with the Commander of the Italian Joint Special Operations Forces,Paolo Pizzuti, ways to develop military cooperation between the two countries, with a focus on qualifying and training the Libyan Special Forces, during their meeting, Thursday, in the Italian capital, Rome.
The meeting comes within the framework of an official visit by Al-Namroush to Italy, which aims to strengthen the military partnership between the two sides, discuss mechanisms for supporting the capabilities of the Libyan military institution, and benefit from Italian expertise in the fields of training and qualification.
The meeting discussed the preparation ofA comprehensive training planIt targets members of the Libyan Special Forces, which contributes to raising their operational readiness and enhancing their efficiency, in addition to expanding the areas of technical and military cooperation between the military institutions of the two countries.
This meeting is an extension of the growing path of military cooperation between Libya and Italy, as the joint Libyan-Italian military committee concluded its meetings last June in Tripoli, which focused on supporting programs to develop the Libyan military institution and enhancing coordination between the two sides.
These moves also come in the context of reactivating cooperation agreements between the two countries, after the governments of Libya and Italy signed, in October 2024, eight agreements and memorandums of understanding that covered multiple fields, including security and military cooperation.
The two countries hope that strengthening defense cooperation will contribute to supporting efforts to modernize the Libyan military institution and develop its capabilities, in a way that enhances security stability and serves the common interests between Tripoli and Rome.
