Iranian official to Washington: Iran is not Libya, Syria, or Venezuela, and any attack will face a firm response

An Iranian official warned, on Tuesday, that any American military move against his country would be met with a “firm and harsh” response, which could open the door to a broader regional confrontation, stressing that Tehran “is not a country that can be compared to Syria, Libya, or Venezuela.”

The statements were made by the Assistant for Political Affairs in the Office of Doctrinal-Political Affairs of the Commander-in-Chief of the Iranian Armed Forces, Brigadier General Rasoul Sanayrad, who stressed that the United States should not underestimate Iran’s capabilities or the nature of its regional position.

The Iranian official explained that the recent movements of US aircraft carriers and naval vessels in the region were no longer, in his words, capable of creating a deterrent effect or imposing new pressure equations, considering that any show of force aimed at influencing the course of the negotiations represents a “miscalculation.”

Sanayrad pointed out that his country has the ability to withstand the pressure, warning that any military escalation would not have repercussions limited to the United States alone, but could extend to include its allies in the region, in light of what he described as a state of tension that could expand.

The same official accused Israel of influencing American estimates and pushing Washington towards what he considered “inaccurate readings” of the nature of the Iranian situation, calling on the American administration not to be drawn into “foreign agendas.”

The Iranian official concluded his statements by emphasizing that any “strategic mistake” on Washington’s part will have a high material and moral cost, and may lead to a confrontation that goes beyond the bilateral framework towards a broader regional scope.
