Tehran –Intensive diplomatic efforts continue as the deadline set by US President Donald Trump for Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz approaches, amid continued differences in positions between Washington and Tehran, at a time when observers warn of the repercussions of any new escalation on the security of the region and global energy markets.
The American President stressed that the current hours represent the “last opportunity” for Iran to reach an understanding regarding the resumption of navigation in the Strait, noting that there are ongoing contacts, while hinting at the possibility of returning to the military option if diplomatic efforts fail.
On the other hand, the Iranian authorities denied the existence of direct negotiations with Washington, stressing that any decision related to reopening the Strait of Hormuz remains linked to a set of security and political conditions, including stopping military threats, respecting previous understandings, and taking into account Iranian security interests.
According to circulating data, Tehran is continuing separate talks with the Sultanate of Oman to discuss technical and security arrangements that guarantee the safety of navigation, without considering these consultations as part of direct negotiations with the United States.
