Atlanta– Egyptian national team coach Hossam Hassan launched a sharp attack on the arbitration and organization of the 2026 World Cup, following his country’s loss to Argentina with a score of (3-2) in the quarter-finals, considering that Egypt had been subjected to “clear injustice” that prevented it from continuing its journey in the tournament.
During the press conference that followed the match, Hassan confirmed that the Egyptian national team was the better team for most of the match, noting that the refereeing decisions had a direct impact on the result. He also criticized the timing of the match at midday, considering that it did not take into account the physical aspects of the players.
The Egyptian coach said that Argentina “does not deserve to win,” adding that his team was closest to qualifying had it not been for what he described as “external factors” that affected the course of the match. He also announced that he would not watch the rest of the World Cup matches after returning to his country, in protest against what he considered a lack of justice in the tournament.
Hossam Hassan expressed his dissatisfaction with canceling a goal for Egypt and not awarding a penalty kick, asking whether there was a desire for the defending champion or star Lionel Messi to continue in the competition, stressing that some arbitration decisions raised many question marks.
In another context, the Egyptian national team coach renewed his talk about the Palestinian issue, calling on the international sports and media community to show greater solidarity with civilians and children affected by the war, considering that humanitarian issues deserve wider attention from various sports circles.
For his part, player Mustafa Zico expressed his astonishment at some of the refereeing decisions, stressing that the Egyptian national team played a great match against the world champion, while goalkeeper Mustafa Schubert said that his country was close to achieving victory, but small details decided the result in favor of the Argentine national team.
