My Press – Rabat
Amid widespread interest from doctors, nurses, and all citizens, a handover ceremony of power took place at the headquarters of the Ministry of Health and Social Protection in Rabat between former Minister Amine Tahraoui and the new Minister, ProfessorYunus BjejoAt a moment described by professional circles as a return for “the owners of the white ministry and field academics” to lead one of the most sensitive ministries closely linked to the daily lives of Moroccans.

The son of the “Al-Masirah neighborhood in Taza” enters the Hassan building… poignant scenes and huge challenges

What caught the attention of those who followed the scenes behind the appointment of Professor Yunus Bejo and his assumption of his duties was his self-made professional and humanitarian path. The man, who comes from an educational family in the First Massira neighborhood in the city of Taza, accumulated high scientific and management experience as managing director of the Mohammed VI Foundation for Science and Health, and closely supervised the medical training and scientific research workshops and modern university hospitals.

Behind the scenes of the transfer of power, the Ministry’s officials did not hide their satisfaction at the arrival of a professor who understands the language of doctors and nurses and knows precisely the internal problems of public hospitals, from the emergency departments and the widely spaced examination times to the problem of the shortage in human resources and vital medicines.

“The simple citizen does not want to go to the hospital. He does not care about the slogans. He does not care about the doctor, the medicine, and the radio are servants.. And the arrival of Professor Biggo from the Mohammed VI Foundation for Science and Health made the Moroccans say: What are we going to see about the quality of the institution’s clinics as transferring them to public hospitals?”

Burning priorities on Professor Bijou’s table

The new Minister of Health receives his portfolio at a time when the Ministerial Council’s communication of the draft Finance Law 2027 explicitly stated“Continue universal health coverage, ensure the sustainability of its systems, and redouble efforts to rehabilitate the public health system”This puts him in front of 4 instant bets:

  • Bringing the Territorial Sanitary Groups (GST) into effect:To end the blatant disparity in therapeutic services between the Rabat-Casablanca axis and the interior and mountainous regions.
  • Securing stocks of essential medicines:Especially medications for chronic diseases and cancer, preventing any sudden interruption in pharmacies and hospitals.
  • Valuing human health resources:Turning the page on tensions with health unions and students in the faculties of medicine and pharmacy.
