From Morocco to Algeria via Spain… the fall of a network specialized in counterfeiting and exporting stolen cars

In a qualitative security operation, the Spanish authorities announced the dismantling of a criminal network specialized in stealing cars from Morocco and re-exporting them to Algeria after forging their documents inside Spanish territory, through the port of Alicante.

Official data issued by the Spanish Civil Guard indicated that the operation was launched on November 19, 2025, and resulted in the arrest of six suspects between the ages of 32 and 45 years, who are being prosecuted on charges related to forging official documents.

According to the same source, investigations began after the tax and border analysis and research unit at the port of Alicante recorded an unusual increase in the number of vehicles carrying temporary number plates, during shipping operations towards Algeria.

Audit operations revealed defects in the administrative documents for a number of cars, which prompted deepening the research and uncovering the network’s threads.

Investigations revealed that the cars under investigation were stolen from within Moroccan territory, before being transported to Europe, where their documents, including invoices and official certificates, were falsified to give them the status of European origin. After that, it was re-exported to Algeria, in an attempt to hide its illicit origin.

The operation resulted in the seizure of seven cars of different brands and models, and placing them under judicial custody before shipping them to Algeria. It is expected that, after completing the legal procedures, these vehicles will be returned to their legal owners.

This operation falls within the efforts to combat cross-border organized crime and enhance security coordination between the countries concerned, in the face of illicit vehicle trafficking networks.
