Did Israel try to drag Washington into escalation? Growing doubts about Trump’s assassination plot

Washington– American media reports sparked widespread controversy after the circulation of intelligence information that talked about a possible Iranian plot to target US President Donald Trump, at a time when American officials questioned the accuracy of this information, while Trump denied receiving any new Israeli warnings about an attempt to assassinate him.

According to media reports, Israel conveyed to Washington intelligence information indicating the possibility of an Iranian plan to target the American president, but the American intelligence services dealt with it cautiously, considering that the threat had not been conclusively proven. Some officials also expressed reservations about the timing of this information and the possibility of its connection to attempts to influence the American position toward Iran.

These data coincided with Trump’s decision to use the old presidential plane during part of his return trip from the NATO summit, which raised speculation about the existence of security motives. However, the US President denied any connection between changing the plane and security concerns, stressing that the goal was to provide the opportunity for American forces in Britain to see the new presidential plane.

On the other hand, the White House stressed that the new plane is equipped with advanced protection systems, despite previous military officials acknowledging that its equipment has not yet been completed to match the full defensive capabilities of the traditional presidential plane.

In his latest statements, Trump confirmed that Iran has been threatening him for years, declaring that he recommended implementing an “unprecedented” military response if Tehran succeeded in assassinating him. He also clarified that Iranian threats are not new, denying that Israel has provided new intelligence information regarding this file.

These developments come in light of the escalation of tension between the United States and Iran after the recent military strikes, coinciding with the continuation of political contacts between the two sides, at a time when regional parties are seeking to contain the escalation and prevent the crisis from sliding into a broader confrontation.
