Developments in the Tunisia national team doping case.. The Carthage Eagles doctor reveals the source of the banned substance

TunisiaIn a new development in the file of positive tests that affected eight players from the Tunisian national team during the 2026 World Cup, Carthage Eagles doctor Suhail Al-Shamli revealed that the source of the banned substance “Clenbuterol” is due to the meat that the players consumed in Mexico, stressing that the matter is not related to deliberate doping, and does not require imposing sanctions on the players.

This development comes as a continuation of the news published yesterday regarding the emergence of positive results in doping tests for eight Tunisian national team players, an issue that has sparked widespread interest in sports circles.

Al-Shamli explained that the substance “Clenbuterol” is used in some countries, including Mexico, to treat livestock, and its effects may be transmitted to meat, which explains its appearance in test results. He added that the initial tests recorded one case before FIFA decided to expand the scope of the tests, and eight cases were discovered, while confirming the absence of any intentional consumption by players or medical staff of prohibited substances.

The Tunisian team doctor confirmed that all indicators confirm good faith, pointing out that the meat that the delegation consumed was provided in accordance with the standards approved by the International Federation of Football Associations, and in accordance with the laws in force in the host country, which makes this incident exceptional.

The Tunisian Football Federation is expected to issue an official statement in the coming hours to clarify the circumstances of the case and the results of the tests, in addition to its legal position on the file. Circulating data also indicate that the first positive case was recorded for the player Hannibal Al-Mejbri, before the rest of the cases were discovered during subsequent tests.
