SilbabyComplaints from patients’ companions at the medical center in the city of Silbabi, southern Mauritania, are escalating due to what they described as the high costs of treatment, preventing them from accompanying their families inside the hospital, in addition to the absence of spaces designated to receive them, which forces them to spend long hours outdoors under the heat of the sun.
A number of citizens confirmed that waiting conditions have become stressful, in light of the high cost of medical services and medications, and the difficulty of communicating with patients, noting that they stay in front of the hospital for days without providing the minimum conditions of comfort or human accompaniment.
Companions also expressed their dissatisfaction with the restrictions imposed on visiting patients, stressing that some of them were prevented from seeing their family members even in sensitive health conditions, which they considered to be additional suffering that increases psychological pressure on patients and their families.
Others accused the hospital administration of not paying sufficient attention to humanitarian aspects, stressing that their primary concern is improving reception conditions, providing decent places for companions, and facilitating communication with patients, in addition to reducing the financial burdens associated with treatment.
Those affected call on the concerned authorities to intervene urgently to improve the quality of health services, ensure treatment that preserves the dignity of patients and their companions, and provide a hospital environment that is more humane and responsive to the needs of citizens.
