An armed attack in southeastern Libya targets water wells, leaving two dead and others kidnapped

Libya – My Press

On Saturday, an armed attack targeting a water well facility in the Tazerbu region, southeastern Libya, resulted in the killing of two people and the kidnapping of two others, in an incident described as a terrorist attack that targeted a vital facility for supplying cities with water.

According to data issued by the Man-Made River Project Implementation and Management Agency, the attack targeted the water wells site in Tazarbu, where it led to the killing of an engineer and one of the protection members charged with securing the facility, in addition to the kidnapping of two other members of the same battalion, in addition to the looting of equipment and vehicles located on the spot.

The same source explained that the attack also caused a state of panic among workers and families in the area, given the vital nature of the site linked to securing water supplies to a number of Libyan cities.

This incident comes just one day after another attack targeting the Al-Hasawneh wells site, where four foreign engineers were kidnapped, three of them from the Philippines and another from South Korea, in the context of escalating attacks targeting vital infrastructure.

The Man-Made River Project, which was launched in the 1980s, is one of the most prominent strategic projects in Libya, as it provides fresh water through a pipeline network extending from the depths of the desert towards various cities.

For years, Libya has been living under the impact of continuing security challenges, manifested in repeated attacks and kidnappings, especially those targeting workers in vital projects in the energy and infrastructure sectors.
