issuedUnited StatesA security warning about the possibility of attacks that might target its embassy in the Mauritanian capitalNouakchott, in addition to its citizens residing there, in a regional context characterized by escalating tensions and raising levels of alert.
The US Embassy in Mauritania reported, through an official alert, that there are “increasing risks” of security threats that may affect the headquarters of the diplomatic mission or places frequented by American citizens, calling on its citizens to exercise the utmost caution and vigilance.
The recommendations included avoiding going out during the night, following developments through local media, and being careful in public spaces frequented by foreigners. It also urged the embassy to take additional precautionary measures in anticipation of any emergency.
On the other hand, the Mauritanian authorities have not issued any official comment regarding this warning yet.
In parallel, the US Embassy in Muscat announced that it had raised the level of security alert for its citizens in the Sultanate of Oman, justifying this by “current conditions” in the region. It called on its employees to reduce their movements and remain inside homes or residences as much as possible, while imposing restrictions on movement around the embassy.
These warnings come in light of the continuing regional tensions and the rapid field developments accompanying them, which has prompted Washington to call on its citizens in a number of countries around the world, especially in the Middle East, to be extremely cautious.
These developments bring to the forefront concerns related to the security of diplomatic missions and foreign citizens, in light of an unstable regional environment, which requires greater vigilance and preparedness.
