Washington –The military escalation between the United States and Iran entered a new phase, after the US military announced, at dawn on Tuesday, the implementation of a new wave of air strikes targeting Iranian military sites, while Tehran responded by launching attacks that targeted sites in Bahrain and Jordan, as well as two Emirati oil tankers in the Strait of Hormuz.
The US Central Command (Centcom) announced that the military operation lasted about five hours, and included precise strikes targeting coastal defense systems, missile platforms and drones, in addition to naval facilities in the regions of Bushehr, Chabahar, Jask, Konark, Abu Musa, and Bandar Abbas, stressing that the goal was to reduce Iran’s capabilities to threaten maritime navigation.
On the other hand, the Iranian Revolutionary Guard announced the implementation of attacks targeting facilities that it said belonged to the US Fifth Fleet in Bahrain, which included a control and monitoring center, radars, and logistical facilities, while sirens sounded in the Kingdom, and the authorities called on residents to go to safe places.
In another development, the UAE Ministry of Defense announced the killing of an Indian sailor and the injury of eight others, after the UAE oil tankers “Mombasa” and “Al Bahia” were attacked by two cruise missiles while they were crossing the southern corridor of the Strait of Hormuz in Omani territorial waters.
Iran also announced the targeting of an American air base in Jordan with ballistic missiles, while the Jordanian army confirmed the interception of four missiles that entered the Kingdom’s airspace, without recording human or material losses, indicating that its units dealt with missile remnants and raised the level of military readiness.
These developments coincided with US President Donald Trump announcing the re-imposition of a blockade on Iranian ports, and proposing 20% fees to protect navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, in a move that reflects escalating US pressure on Tehran.
This escalation comes days after the exchange of attacks between the two sides, amid growing fears about the expansion of the confrontation and its impact on the security of international navigation and energy markets.
