Ain Naqbi disaster in Fez.. 15 deaths after the collapse of a residential building and a continuous alert

Fez –The death toll from the collapse of a residential building in the Hanan al-Jarandi neighborhood in the Ain Naqbi area of ​​the city of Fez has risen to 15 deaths and 5 injured, according to updated data announced by local authorities on Friday morning, in one of the most tragic incidents the city has witnessed in recent years.

According to available data, four of the injured are in a stable health condition and receiving the necessary treatment in hospital institutions, while a fifth person was lightly injured after he was near the building at the time of its collapse.

Civil protection personnel, supported by various competent authorities and departments, continue operations to remove rubble and comb the site, searching for any potential victims under the rubble, amid continuous alert since the accident occurred on Thursday morning.

The collapsed building, consisting of six floors, contained about 10 residential apartments in addition to a residence on the roof, before it suddenly collapsed inside a dense residential complex, leaving a state of shock and sadness among the residents of the area.

This tragedy brings to the forefront the issue of buildings in danger of collapsing in the city of Fez, in light of the mounting demands of a number of citizens and local actors for the necessity of tightening monitoring of buildings in danger of collapse and taking pre-emptive measures to protect the population.

The King’s Attorney General at the Fez Court of Appeal had previously announced the opening of a judicial investigation to uncover the various causes and circumstances associated with this incident, while determining responsibilities and arranging the necessary legal effects.

This tragedy created a widespread state of alert in the vicinity of Ain al-Naqbi, coinciding with the continued interventions of rescue teams and securing the surroundings of the collapsed building and neighboring buildings.
