Aguila Saleh, Speaker of the Libyan Parliament, held a meeting with President of the Supreme Council of State, Khaled Al-Mishri, yesterday, Monday. During the meeting, they discussed how to develop a clear map and strategy to form a new unified government in preparation for holding simultaneous presidential and parliamentary elections.
The Libyan Parliament confirmed that Aguila Saleh and Khaled Al-Mishri discussed steps to form a new government to open the way for the country towards simultaneous parliamentary and presidential elections.
Abdul Hamid Al-Dabaiba, head of the National Unity Government, represents an obstacle to the Speakers of Parliament and the Council of State, as he clings to his position with the support of military and political parties in western Libya, despite the criticism directed at his government and the demands calling for its departure.
It is noteworthy that weeks ago, Parliament’s movements began within the framework of forming a new government, and it received the files of a number of candidates, and listened to their programs and future project for the country, and this matter was completely ignored by Abdul Hamid Al-Dabaiba, while the UN mission and the international community did not announce any positions adopting Parliament’s plan to form a new government.
For her part, Hannah Tetteh, the UN envoy, said, “The international community still recognizes the unity government, and any new initiative taken by any party regarding forming the government must not be unilateral.”
