My press – Morocco
The water situation in Morocco has recorded a remarkable improvement in recent days, with a significant increase inDam stocksThis reflects the impact of recent rainfall on water resources and raises hopes of overcoming the effects of drought years.
According to recent data, the total volume of stored water reached about 12.6 billion cubic meters, compared to about 6.4 billion during the same period last year, which represents an increase of nearly double, and is a clear indication of the improvement of the national water situation.
The filling rate of dams also rose to 73.7%, compared to about 38% a year ago, which confirms a significant recovery in various water basins, especially in the northern and central regions.
The recent precipitation contributed to enhancing the reserves of a number of major dams, including the Ben Ouidane Dam, which is close to being full, and the Ahmed Al-Hansali Dam, in addition to the Al-Mansour Al-Dhahabi Dam, while some dams are still recording lower levels despite the relative improvement.
The Sebu Basin stands out as the most important water reservoir in the Kingdom, as it contains the largest volume of stored water, supported by a noticeable increase in the filling rate, which enhances its strategic role in securing the needs of drinking water and the agricultural sector.
Despite these positive indicators, disparities still exist between basins, with some regions recording lower percentages, which poses challenges related to the equitable distribution of water resources and the need to continue sustainable management efforts.
This improvement confirms thatMoroccoIt is moving towards gradually restoring its water balance, while the need for proactive policies to confront climate fluctuations and ensure water security in the long term remains.
