My press – Libya
Through a number of individualsMoroccan communityResiding in the Eastern Province inLibyaThey expressed their satisfaction with the decision issued by the Libyan government, which provides for a temporary exemption from fees and fines for foreign workers, in a step that is expected to enable them to regularize their legal and social situations within the country.
This decision, which came into effect at the beginning of this April, comes within the framework of an official trend that aims to organize the immigration file and improve its management mechanisms, as it allows foreigners residing in Libya a period of three months to correct their situation, whether by renewing residence permits or settling work statuses, in a way that guarantees them legal residence.
Official Libyan sources explained that this measure falls within a broader vision to enhance cooperation with sister countries, especially in the Arab and African spaces, with a focus on establishing a balance between the humanitarian dimension and respect for national laws, which contributes to the stability of the situation inside the country.
In this context, association activists confirmed that the decision represents a real opportunity for a large number of Moroccans who were facing financial difficulties that prevented them from settling their situations, especially after the significant increase in residency fees and fines over the past years, which in some cases exceeded the purchasing power of members of the community.
Interventionists explained that the costs of settling the legal situation witnessed a significant increase, which put a number of Moroccans in a vulnerable legal situation, which increased their risk of being exploited or falling victim to illegal intermediaries.
Observers also indicated that this step may contribute to reducing some of the negative practices associated withIrregular migrationAnd alleviating the social and economic pressure experienced by foreign communities, in light of difficult living conditions characterized by high costs of life and declining job opportunities.
For their part, Moroccans residing in the cities of eastern Libya, including Benghazi, confirmed that the decision would encourage many of them to settle their situations and avoid any future legal consequences, considering that this initiative carries an important humanitarian dimension, especially in light of the current economic conditions.
It is expected that this temporary exemption will contribute to alleviating the financial burdens on the Moroccan community, while at the same time supporting the efforts of the Libyan authorities to regulate the presence of foreigners on its soil, in a way that enhances the legal and social stability of the various groups concerned.
