International –A number of members of the House of Representatives directed a written question to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Residing Abroad,Nasser BouritaOn the urgent measures taken to protect Moroccan citizens in Iran, in light of the security developments taking place in the region.
The question, submitted by the Socialist Group – Federal Opposition in the House of Representatives, stated that a number of Moroccan citizens residing in Iran, whether for the purposes of study, work, or family visits, sent letters and calls for help expressing their concern about the current situation, demanding urgent intervention to ensure their safety.
The parliamentary team stressed that protecting Moroccan citizens abroad remains one of the state’s basic priorities, and constitutes one of the core tasks of national diplomacy, especially in cases of crises and regional tensions.
Questions about emergency measures
The representatives demanded the disclosure of the immediate measures taken by the Ministry to ensure the security and safety of Moroccans currently in Iran, wondering whether an accurate census had been conducted of the concerned citizens, specifying their places of residence and their social and health conditions.
They also inquired about the nature of the existing coordination with diplomatic and consular services, and the measures taken to provide the necessary support and accompaniment to the citizens concerned in this exceptional circumstance.
Is there a re-deportation process?
The parliamentary team also asked about the possibility of organizing an operation to return Moroccans who wish to return to the homeland as soon as possible, while examining ways to coordinate with the embassies of friendly countries or international organizations in order to secure safe corridors for evacuation, in light of the state of instability that the region is experiencing.
This parliamentary initiative comes in the context of growing concerns about the safety of foreign nationals in Iran, amid calls to activate mechanisms of vigilance and proactive intervention to ensure the protection of Moroccan citizens abroad.
