Mauritanian President Mohamed Ould Ghazouani called on French companies to direct more of their investments towards Mauritania, highlighting the economic potential that the country abounds and the partnership opportunities available between the two sides.
This position came during a speech he delivered, on Friday, April 17, 2026 in Paris, on the occasion of the opening of the Mauritanian-French Economic Forum, where he stressed the importance of building “mutually profitable” partnerships with French economic actors, especially in major structural projects.
The Mauritanian President stressed his country’s openness to developing innovative partnerships with the private sector, especially with France, noting that French companies have internationally recognized experience, innovation and dynamism, which makes them an important partner in supporting economic development.
Ould Ghazouani highlighted the geographical location of Mauritania, as a link between North Africa, sub-Saharan Africa, and the Atlantic space, in addition to its political and security stability, which enhances its attractiveness for investment.
He also highlighted the existence of promising opportunities in a number of vital sectors, including minerals, gas and renewable energies, in addition to marine fishing, agriculture and livestock, as well as infrastructure and logistics projects and technological innovation.
He pointed out that the Mauritanian economy has recorded growth rates in recent years that ranged between 4 and 6 percent, with an average of approximately 5 percent, while maintaining stable macroeconomic balances and a level of debt in the range of 40 percent of the gross domestic product, according to indicators of international financial institutions.
This meeting comes within the framework of a state visit by the Mauritanian President to France, which began last Tuesday, and aims to strengthen bilateral relations and expand the horizons of economic cooperation between the two countries.
