22 migrants were killed off the coast of Greece, following a tragic sea voyage that departed fromLibyaAcross the Mediterranean Sea, according to what was reported by the competent authorities.
Days without water or food
According to available data, the rubber boat left the Tobruk areaEastern LibyaOn March 21, it was heading towards the Greek coast, before its passengers lost direction at sea, leaving them stranded for six days in harsh conditions, without water or food.
Deaths and bodies thrown into the sea
The sources explained that a number of migrants died during the journey, and the bodies of 22 of them were disposed of at sea, based on data provided by survivors of the incident, in light of the difficult humanitarian conditions that accompanied the journey.
Rescue survivors and arrest suspects On the other hand, rescue teams, with support from Frontex, were able to rescue 26 people off the island of Crete, including a woman and a minor, two of whom were transferred to the hospital to receive the necessary treatment.
The authorities also announced the arrest of two people, aged 19 and 22, suspected of being linked to migrant smuggling networks, as part of ongoing investigations to determine the circumstances of this incident.
This incident highlights the dangers of irregular migration across the Mediterranean, as attempts to cross continue despite the security and humanitarian challenges.
