Morocco strengthens its security position on the continent. El Jadida hosts a high-level meeting to combat terrorism with broad international participation

Morocco –The fifth session of the high-level meeting of heads of counter-terrorism and security agencies in Africa, known as the “Marrakesh Platform,” was launched in El Jadida, under the co-chairmanship of the Kingdom of Morocco and the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism.

This meeting, which extends over two days, includes the participation of about forty African security and intelligence services, in addition to dozens of delegations coming from the Middle East, Europe, Asia, and the Americas as observers, in addition to the presence of representatives of international and regional institutions and bodies.

The organization of this session comes in a security context characterized by the continuation of terrorist threats and the development of their methods within a number of regions on the African continent, which makes strengthening coordination and exchange of experiences between the various security agencies among the most prominent issues raised during this meeting.

This session falls within a series of previous meetings hosted by the cities of Marrakesh, Tangier, Fez and Agadir over the past years, within the framework of efforts aimed at developing regional security cooperation mechanisms and enhancing joint capabilities in confronting cross-border security challenges.

The “Marrakesh Platform” also constitutes a space for exchanging experiences and expertise and coordinating efforts between African countries and their international partners, which contributes to supporting stability and security and strengthening mechanisms for confronting terrorist threats on the continent.

The scale of participation in this session reflects the position that the platform has come to occupy at the continental and international levels, as one of the most prominent mechanisms for dialogue and security cooperation in Africa, and a regular date for discussing current security challenges and exploring ways to confront them.
