Morocco achieves a diplomatic breakthrough in Latin America: Honduras’ decision deepens the crisis and isolation of Algeria and the Polisario

Algeria –

In a new diplomatic development, the Republic of Honduras decided to suspend its recognition of the separatist front, “Polisario,” in a move that falls within an ongoing dynamic witnessed by the Moroccan Sahara issue at the international level, especially in the Latin American region.

According to circulated data, the Honduran authorities have officially communicated this decision to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Residing Abroad, in the context of an increasing trend by a number of countries towards reviewing their positions on this file.

This development comes as an extension of a series of similar decisions, as Honduras joined a list of 54 countries that have withdrawn or suspended their recognition during the past 25 years, including a number of countries that took this step during the last two years.

This decision also coincides with a delicate international circumstance, represented by the UN Security Council’s discussion of the Moroccan Sahara file, especially after Resolution No. 2797, which renewed support for the political track and stressed the importance of the solution based on the autonomy initiative.

Those who follow international affairs believe that this shift reflects a growing diplomatic dynamism, recording an increase in the number of countries expressing their support for the Moroccan proposal, in contrast to a decline in recognition of other proposals.

In this context, experts in international relations considered that the decision issued by Honduras carried important political implications, including strengthening Morocco’s position within the international arena, especially in areas that were traditionally considered areas of support for the separatist proposal.

They also pointed out that the coincidence of this decision with the ongoing discussions within the Security Council reflects rapid shifts in the positions of a number of countries, which may affect the outcome of this file during the next stage.

This development comes within the framework of a diplomatic process that is witnessing continuous transformations, with increasing international support for initiatives aimed at finding a realistic and sustainable political solution to the conflict.
