Mauritania moves diplomatically after a security incident near its embassy in Mali

Nouakchott –Mauritania entered the tension that followed the events recorded near its embassy headquarters in the Malian capital, Bamako, after it officially expressed its rejection of what it considered a violation of internationally applicable diplomatic rules.

The Mauritanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that it had sent a summons to the Malian ambassador to Nouakchott, Bakary Doumbia, to inform him of the position of the Mauritanian authorities regarding the incident that took place in the vicinity of the embassy.

During the discussions, Foreign Minister Mohamed Salem Ould Marzouk stressed that the host country bears responsibility for ensuring the security of foreign diplomatic missions, including the protection of employees and citizens residing on its territory, in accordance with relevant international agreements.

Nouakchott called on the Malian authorities to take security measures to protect the Mauritanian embassy and its citizens, while avoiding any similar events that might affect bilateral relations between the two countries.

On the other hand, Mauritania stressed the importance of adopting diplomatic channels and institutional dialogue to address the various issues raised, which contributes to maintaining regional stability and enhancing cooperation between the two sides.
