NouakchottThe political parties in Mauritania reached an agreement on a document that constitutes a road map for the upcoming national dialogue, in a step that paves the way for the launch of the dialogue sessions after months of consultations, amid the continuing dispute over the presidential errands file, which continues to cause division between the opposition and the loyalists. According to political sources, the document will be signed by the six poles participating in the dialogue Three from the opposition and three from the majority, before raising it toPresident Mohamed Ould Sheikh Al-Ghazouani, which will determine the date for the start of the national dialogue sessions.The document includes four main axes:
National unity and social harmony, andThe democratic model, andGovernance model, andIntegrating vulnerable groups and preventing risks and threatsAfter it was reduced from eight axes that were presented in the previous version and sparked widespread disagreements.Despite agreement on the general framework of the dialogue, the issue of amending the constitutional articles related to the number of presidential terms is still a matter of disagreement between political parties. The opposition has confirmed its commitment to rejecting any discussion that affects the fortified constitutional articles, considering that opening the door to candidacy for a third presidential term represents a retreat from the democratic path.
On the other hand, parties from the majority believe that the road map represents a general framework that allows discussion of various issues without exception, stressing that the national dialogue should remain open to all the files raised.
