Libya: The spark line fire is contained and oil production is expected to return within hours

Tripoli –announcedNational Oil CorporationIn Libya, today, Thursday, its teams succeeded in extinguishing the fire that broke out in one of the crude oil transportation lines in the Sharara field, confirming the start of gradually restoring production.

The Corporation stated, in an official statement, that the accident resulted from a leak at the level of one of the valves, noting that rapid intervention enabled the situation to be controlled without recording additional developments, while activating an operational plan to re-pump the oil.

She confirmed that production has partially returned, as about half of the field’s production capacity has been restored, waiting to reach normal levels within the next 24 hours, if operations continue according to the specified program.

In parallel, maintenance teams are preparing to assess the technical damage caused by the fire, in preparation for the start of repair work, without setting an exact date for its completion.

The Sharara field is considered one of the most prominent pillars of oil production in Libya, with a capacity ranging between 300,000 and 320,000 barrels per day. It is also linked to the Zawiya refinery, which is considered the largest in the country, with a capacity of up to 120,000 barrels per day.

The field is located in the southwest of Libya, and is operated by Akakus, in partnership between the National Oil Corporation and a number of international companies, including Repsol, Total Energies, OMV, and Equinor.

This incident comes in light of the continuing challenges facing himOil sectorLibya, which has witnessed repeated unrest in recent years as a result of technical and political factors.
