Is the end of the transitional phase in Libya approaching? A new road map that puts elections and unifying institutions at the heart of the solution

Tripoli –The Libyan Constituent Assembly announced the launch of a new political initiative under the name“National Road Map”It aims to end the political impasse, restore popular legitimacy, and unify state institutions, leading to organizing free and fair general elections and ending all transitional stages that the country has been experiencing for years.

The Council affirmed, in an official statement, that the initiative is based on the principle that the Libyan people are the source of authorities and have the inherent right to decide their political future, stressing the necessity of moving towards permanent elected institutions based on the rule of law, justice and equal citizenship.

The initiative includes five main axes distributed over specific time phases, starting with a first phase lasting 30 days, which includes holding public sessions for candidates to head the government and presenting their programs before electing the head of a unified national government.

The second phase, which lasts 15 days, concerns the designation of the elected prime minister, the formation of his government, its official approval, and the carrying out of its duties.

In the third phase, which extends for six months, the initiative proposes working to unify the executive, sovereign and supervisory institutions, in addition to unifying the state’s general budget.

The fourth stage, which also lasts six months, stipulates the completion of the constitutional process by adopting a final constitutional rule and creating the necessary legal framework to organize elections.

The initiative concludes with a fifth phase lasting 18 months, devoted to holding presidential and parliamentary elections and handing over power to elected institutions, in a step aimed at ending the transitional phase and establishing political stability in the country.

The initiative’s owners believe that the success of this map would open the door to a comprehensive national consensus and unify Libyan state institutions, thus enhancing the chances of stability and development after years of political and institutional division.
