Libya –The Libyan authorities announced progress in the ongoing investigations into the killing of Saif al-Islam Gaddafi, son of the late Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi, after identifying three people suspected of involvement in the assassination that took place early last February in the city of Zintan, west of the country.
The Public Prosecutor’s Office explained in an official statement that the investigations initiated by the competent authorities following the incident made it possible to track the movements of the suspects and determine their meeting place, as well as determining the timing of their movement to the crime site, which resulted in the identification of three of those involved and the issuance of arrest warrants for them.
According to data revealed by preliminary investigations, the suspects monitored Saif al-Islam Gaddafi in his residence before they sneaked into the house and surrounded him in the courtyard of the residence, where they shot him directly, wounding him with several gunshot wounds, as a result of which he died on the spot.
His French lawyer indicated that the assassination was likely carried out by a group of four people.
Saif al-Islam Gaddafi is considered one of the most prominent political figures associated with the former Libyan regime, and his name has returned to the forefront in recent years, especially after he submitted his candidacy file for the 2021 Libyan presidential elections in the city of Sebha, before the electoral deadline was postponed in light of the continuing political division that the country has witnessed since 2011.
