New Jersey –The Moroccan national football team tied with its Norwegian counterpart, 1-1, on Sunday evening, in the last friendly match for the “Atlas Lions” before the start of the 2026 World Cup, in a confrontation that witnessed two worrying injuries to both Nassir Mazraoui and Abdel Samad Zalzouli.
The Moroccan national team entered the match strongly, as Ibrahim Diaz opened the scoring early in the eighth minute after a coordinated attack led by Abdel Samad Zalzouli, giving the advantage to the “Atlas Lions” during a first half that they dominated for most of its periods.
The national team almost increased its lead on more than one occasion through Achraf Hakimi and Zalzouli, while goalkeeper Yassine Bounou excelled in maintaining the Moroccan lead by blocking a dangerous attempt before the end of the first half.
The match witnessed the first strikes by the Moroccan technical staff after Nassir Mazraoui left injured in the 28th minute, before Abdel Samad Zalzouli in turn left due to an ankle injury shortly before the end of the first half.
In the second half, the national team made several changes to rest a number of key players and give other players the opportunity, before Norwegian national team captain Martin Odegaard succeeded in adjusting the score in the 75th minute.
Despite the draw, the Moroccan national team presented positive indicators at the technical level a few days before entering the 2026 World Cup, but the health status of Mazraoui and Zalzouli remains the main concern of the technical staff and the Moroccan fans while awaiting the results of the final medical examinations.
