Tunisia/Algeria –In a move that is expected to please North African soccer fans, the American authorities announced the easing of procedures for obtaining entry visas for the 2026 World Cup, especially for fans of qualifying teams such as Algeria and Tunisia.
The US administration had previously approved new procedures requiring citizens of a number of developing countries to deposit sums of money ranging between 5,000 and 15,000 dollars as a temporary guarantee to obtain a visa, as part of a policy aimed at tightening immigration control.
But the US State Department confirmed that fans who have official tickets to World Cup matches and are registered under a special visa priority processing system will not be required to pay this financial deposit, along with members of delegations and participating teams.
Washington believes that this step falls within the preparations for organizing an exceptional edition of the 2026 World Cup, which will be held jointly between the United States, Canada and Mexico, amid expectations of achieving record numbers in terms of public attendance and global following.
The American authorities also clarified that facilitating travel procedures will not affect the adopted security measures, as the relevant authorities will continue verification and auditing operations related to visa applications.
The decision includes a number of African and Arab countries that qualified for the World Cup, including Algeria, Tunisia, Senegal, Ivory Coast and Cape Verde, after the fans feared that the financial deposit would constitute a major obstacle to attending the World Cup.
