The Iraqi News Agency “INA” announced the release of five Iraqis who were detained in Libya due to their attempts to migrate illegally. According to what was announced by the Chargé d’Affaires of the Iraqi Embassy in Tripoli, Ahmed Al-Sahhaf, the Iraqi citizens were released after efforts that lasted for three months, including many complications and risks.
In his statement, Al-Sahhaf added that the Iraqi embassy in Libya coordinated efforts with the relevant Libyan authorities in the National Unity Government, which resulted in the release of migrants who entered Libya illegally in attempts to immigrate to Europe through Libyan territory.
Al-Sahhaf confirmed that the embassy provided treatment services and housing for those released, in addition to granting them laissez-passers to facilitate their voluntary return to Iraq. He also pointed out that the embassy had succeeded in releasing dozens of Iraqi immigrants in 2024 and early 2025.
Al-Sahhaf called on Iraqi youth to be extremely cautious and not to be drawn into illegal immigration networks, stressing the importance of maintaining personal security and safety.
