A former Mauritanian minister praises Morocco and describes it as an “inspiring model.” Her message angers Algeria

Mauritania –A blog post published by former Mauritanian Minister Naha Haroun Sheikh Sidiya sparked widespread interaction on social media platforms, after she expressed her admiration for the Moroccan experience under the leadership of King Mohammed VI, considering that the Kingdom has become an inspiring development model at the African level.

The former Mauritanian official’s post was accompanied by a video clip documenting statements by French President Emmanuel Macron, in which he praised the Moroccan experience in the education sector, considering that Morocco has achieved remarkable transformations in the training and education system, from primary education to universities and higher institutes.

The same spokeswoman confirmed, on her official page, that Morocco does not represent, for Mauritania, just a neighboring country, but rather “a country of brotherhood, history, and deep human ties,” noting that her repeated visits to the Kingdom made her realize the extent of the transformations that the country is experiencing on multiple levels.

She also noted what she described as the development achieved by Morocco in the sectors of education, health, tourism, infrastructure and organization, considering that the Kingdom has become an “inspiring model” whose radiance extends beyond the borders of the African continent.

The former Mauritanian minister also expressed her pride in the relations between Mauritania and Morocco, describing the Kingdom as a “neighbor and supporter,” before wishing Morocco continued stability and prosperity.

The former Mauritanian minister’s post left a wide wave of interaction on social media platforms, which also included comments and criticism issued by accounts known for their hostile positions towards Morocco, especially after the praise included in her message for the Moroccan development experience and the growing relations between Rabat and Nouakchott.

Observers believe that such positions in support of the Moroccan-Mauritanian rapprochement provoke, from time to time, tense reactions from parties that reject the growth of bilateral relations between the two countries, especially in light of the political and diplomatic transformations that the region has witnessed in recent years.

This interaction also comes in the context of the momentum that followed the meeting between King Mohammed VI and Mauritanian President Mohamed Ould Ghazouani, which constituted a prominent milestone in the process of strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries.

Observers believe that the increasing praise issued by Mauritanian figures towards the Moroccan experience reflects the growing rapprochement between Rabat and Nouakchott, in addition to the growing interest in the Moroccan model in the areas of development, stability and reform.
