Tunisia –On Thursday, the criminal division responsible for examining financial corruption cases at the Court of First Instance in Tunisia began interrogating prominent Tunisian officials, led by the former president of the Truth and Dignity Commission, Siham Ben Sedrine, and the former head of the Commission’s Arbitration and Reconciliation Committee, Khaled Al-Karishi, along with the businessman Salim Chiboub, in the context of a case related to suspicions of violations that accompanied the work of the Truth and Dignity Commission.
The court is examining a file related to the arbitration agreement concluded by the Authority with businessman Salim Shayboub, amid investigations focusing on the extent of respect for legal procedures and the protection of public money during the conclusion of the agreement.
The former Minister of State Property and Real Estate Affairs, Mabrouk Karsheed, was also referred in the case as a fugitive, according to circulated data.
The perpetrators face charges related to a public employee exploiting his position to extract an undeserved benefit for others, harming the administration, and violating legal regulations, in addition to participating in these acts.
This session comes in the context of the Tunisian judiciary continuing to consider files related to the work of the Truth and Dignity Commission, especially those related to the arbitration agreements it concluded during its work, which sparked widespread legal and political controversy in Tunisia.
