Tripoli –The Libyan General Doctors Union condemned the attack on a number of medical staff members inside the Abu Salim Trauma Hospital, while performing their duties, demanding the opening of a transparent investigation and holding all those involved accountable, while providing permanent security protection for workers in health institutions.
The union confirmed, in an official statement, that targeting doctors and medical and administrative personnel inside health facilities represents an attack on the health facility and the rule of law, warning that the repetition of such incidents threatens the safety of workers and affects the continuity of providing medical services to citizens.
The union appreciated the initial measures undertaken by the administration of Abu Salim Accident Hospital and the competent authorities, calling for the investigations to be completed in all transparency and for anyone proven to be involved to be referred to the judiciary, in a way that ensures justice for those affected and prevents the recurrence of such attacks.
It also stressed the need to provide effective security protection for doctors and all health sector workers while performing their duties, in addition to adopting a clear national mechanism to deal with attacks targeting medical personnel, ensuring rapid intervention and law enforcement.
For its part, the administration of Abu Salim Accident Hospital confirmed that a member of the medical and paramedical staff was subjected to a physical attack during the first hours of Friday, June 26, 2026, noting that it followed the incident on the ground in coordination with the Ministry of Health until it was assured of the safety of the injured person, while completely condemning any acts of violence targeting workers in the health sector.
The General Syndicate of Doctors of Libya considered that protecting medical personnel is not only a professional requirement, but a national necessity to ensure the continuity of health services and enhance the prestige of the state and the rule of law within public institutions
