According to specialized media reports in the sectorEnergySpain imported for the first time a shipment of liquefied natural gas coming from the joint “Torto Ahmeem” project between Mauritania and Senegal, during the month of March 2026, in a step that reflects a shift in the map of energy supplies in the region.
According to the same reports, the quantity of the shipment amounted to about 80 thousand tons, which represents Mauritania’s entry into the list of countries exporting liquefied gas to the Spanish market, benefiting from its geographical location close toEurope.
On the other hand, the same data indicated Algeria’s continued absence from exporting liquefied gas to Spain for the third month in a row, despite its position as one of the most prominent traditional suppliers to this market.
Reports also indicated that the United States topped the list of suppliers of liquefied gas to Spain, with exports amounting to hundreds of thousands of tons during the beginning of 2026, which reflects a gradual shift in the sources of energy supply inEuropean countries.
These indicators, according to the same sources, highlight a new dynamism in the regional gas market, with the rise of new suppliers versus the decline of traditional roles in light of rapid geopolitical and economic transformations.
