Morocco –The European Union included a map of Morocco in its entire territory, including the southern provinces, in its annual report on investment, in a move that attracted the attention of those following the Moroccan Sahara file.
According to what was stated in the report, page 42 included a map of the Kingdom of Morocco showing the southern regions within the national territory, which observers considered an indication of the development taking place in the approach of some European institutions to this file.
This inclusion is one of the rare cases in which the entire map of Morocco appears in a document issued by a European institution linked to investment and development. This comes in the context of publishing the annual report on investment projects, which includes data and illustrative maps related to the geographical areas of investments and development projects.
This development also comes in the context of the positions expressed by member states within the European Union regarding the regional dispute over the Moroccan Sahara, as the 27 countries affirmed, in a position issued on January 29, that the autonomy initiative proposed by Morocco represents one of the most realistic and applicable solutions to settle this dispute.
It should be noted that the Moroccan Sahara issue has witnessed remarkable diplomatic transformations in recent years, with increasing international support for the Moroccan autonomy initiative, as a framework for an agreed-upon political settlement under the supervision of the United Nations.
